Find your iPhone IP address in a few taps
For the public address this browser uses, open the IP checker on your iPhone. For the local Wi-Fi address, open Settings, tap Wi-Fi, then tap the information button beside the connected network and inspect its IP address fields. The local iPhone IP address and the public result may differ. A router, mobile provider, VPN or privacy relay can sit between your phone and the website.
You do not need to install a scanning app or allow access to your camera, contacts or precise location to read a public iPhone IP address. The browser result comes from a network request. If you need to configure a local accessory, use the address shown for the relevant Wi-Fi network instead. First choose the task, then choose the observation that answers it.
Check the local iPhone IP address on Wi-Fi
In Settings, open Wi-Fi and identify the network that is currently connected. Tap its information button and look for the IP address under the IPv4 details; available IPv6 information may also appear. Read the Router field separately. Apple's Wi-Fi settings guide documents the network details screen and related controls. Labels can vary with the installed iOS version.
The iPhone IP address in those details belongs to the phone on that wireless network. The Router value is the gateway, which is normally another device. For example, a phone might use 192.168.40.25 while the router uses 192.168.40.1. These are illustrative local values. Do not enter them into your own settings simply because they appear in this guide.
Avoid changing Configure IP to Manual merely to read an iPhone IP address. Automatic assignment is expected on many home and guest networks. A manual value can conflict with another device or use the wrong subnet. If a network administrator requests a change, obtain the complete intended configuration and preserve the existing settings before making it.
Find the public iPhone IP address on cellular
When the browser uses cellular data, the homepage shows the public source of its request, or explains why it could not obtain one. Cellular routing may involve shared gateways, IPv6 or address translation. The public iPhone IP address is therefore an observation of that connection, not necessarily an address assigned exclusively and permanently to the handset.
To compare Wi-Fi with cellular deliberately, first record the Wi-Fi result. Then, when appropriate, turn Wi-Fi off in Settings, confirm cellular data is available for the browser, and repeat the check. Restore your normal connection afterward. A different iPhone IP address is expected when the exit path changes; it does not mean the first observation was inaccurate.
Record which cellular line is active if the phone uses multiple SIMs. A line change can alter the provider and path even while you remain in the same place. Keep the browser and privacy settings consistent during the comparison. Otherwise you may attribute an iPhone IP address difference to cellular switching when a relay or VPN changed at the same time.
Private Wi-Fi Address is not an iPhone IP address
Apple's Private Wi-Fi Address feature concerns the device's MAC address on a wireless network. It helps reduce tracking across networks. The setting does not display your public iPhone IP address, and a MAC address cannot be pasted into an IP lookup field as if the two formats were interchangeable. Apple explains the distinction in its private network address guide.
There are therefore two different uses of the word private to keep apart. A private IP is an address used within a local scope, such as familiar home IPv4 ranges. A private Wi-Fi address is a link-layer identifier used by the wireless interface. You can read an iPhone IP address without turning off MAC privacy. Leave privacy settings consistent unless the network's documented troubleshooting process requires otherwise.
Safari, Private Relay and your iPhone IP address
With iCloud+ and Private Relay enabled where supported, covered Safari traffic can reach websites through relay infrastructure. The observed iPhone IP address can then be a relay exit. This is different from the local Wi-Fi address and can differ from what another application exposes. Apple's Private Relay guide describes the feature, availability and controls.
An unfamiliar provider name beside the public iPhone IP address is not enough to establish a fault. Compare it with the privacy and VPN services you intentionally use. A location estimate may also reflect a relay's general region. Do not interpret an approximate city label as the phone's GPS position or disable protection simply to obtain a more familiar organization name.
If you are investigating a website-specific problem, record whether Private Relay is active and whether the result came from Safari. A browser observation cannot certify the path of every app on the phone. The useful question is whether the observed iPhone IP address matches the expected path for that particular request, rather than whether every screen shows one identical value.
VPNs and your iPhone IP address
A VPN can send traffic through another exit, while a managed work configuration may apply different routing policies to different applications. The iPhone IP address observed by one website therefore does not prove that every application is using the same tunnel. For a work access problem, include the application name and the VPN state in the report to your administrator.
If an authorized comparison requires changing the VPN state, capture a baseline first and keep other conditions constant. A changed iPhone IP address is evidence that the observed path changed. It does not by itself measure encryption quality, DNS privacy, all possible browser leaks or the trustworthiness of the provider. Those questions require their own tests and clearly defined expectations.
Why the iPhone IP address can change
Moving from home Wi-Fi to cellular changes the network providing connectivity. Joining a guest network changes local assignment. A provider can reassign an address, and temporary IPv6 addresses may rotate independently of the network prefix. These are different mechanisms. Compare an iPhone IP address only with an earlier observation of the same family and method when investigating unexpected changes.
Two phones sharing a Wi-Fi network can show the same public IPv4 source while keeping separate local addresses. Conversely, IPv6 can give them distinct global values. Neither pattern alone identifies the owner of a phone. The address fundamentals guide explains why an iPhone IP address is a network identifier with context, rather than a permanent personal identity.
When the iPhone IP address is missing
If the browser reports that no result is available, confirm connectivity with an ordinary website and complete any legitimate captive-portal sign-in for the network. A timed-out request to one test endpoint does not prove that the whole internet is unreachable. Content blockers, provider filtering, a tunnel or temporary service trouble can affect one check without affecting every application.
For a local problem, inspect the connected network's details again. An IPv4 link-local value beginning with 169.254 is different from the private range normally supplied by many home routers. Do not invent a replacement iPhone IP address or reset all networking as the first step. Preserve the symptom and ask the network operator which assignment should be present.
Share the iPhone IP address that support needs
Provide the address, IPv4 or IPv6, Wi-Fi or cellular, browser or Settings as the source, and the observation time. Mention an active VPN or relay when relevant. A screenshot of unrelated account settings usually adds little. For local accessory support, the local iPhone IP address may be useful; for a remote allowlist, the public source is usually the value to confirm with that service.
Keep the full address out of public posts when it is unnecessary to answer the question. A successful check should help you understand your connection while leaving its configuration intact. Return to the public IP checker after a deliberate network change, and compare the new iPhone IP address with the context you recorded instead of judging the number in isolation.
