Find the Android IP address you actually need
Open the public IP checker in your phone's browser to see the source observed for that request. For a local Android IP address, open the connected Wi-Fi network's details in Settings. A public result and a local value can differ because a router, mobile gateway or VPN changes the path seen by a destination. Choose the observation that matches your task before copying a number.
You do not need root access, a new app or permission to read contacts to find an Android IP address. A browser observation uses an ordinary internet request, while network settings show local configuration. A printer setup, a remote allowlist and a mobile connection problem may each require a different value. Keep the active connection and observation method with the address so support can interpret it correctly.
Find an Android IP address in Wi-Fi settings
On Pixel phones, open Settings, Network & internet, then Internet. Select the connected network's settings and inspect its network details for the address fields. Google documents the network settings area in its advanced network settings guide. Menu labels can vary by Android release, so use Settings search for Wi-Fi when the path on your device differs.
On many Galaxy phones, the path begins with Settings, Connections, Wi-Fi, then the gear beside the connected network. Additional details may appear under View more or IP settings. Samsung describes this read-only inspection in its phone IP information instructions. Read the existing Android IP address and close the settings without changing assignment or saving a new value.
The local Android IP address is separate from the Gateway or Router field. For example, a phone might have 192.168.30.25 while the gateway uses 192.168.30.1. They identify different participants in the example network. Do not copy the gateway when a local service asks for the phone's address, and do not enter these illustrative numbers as replacements for your own settings.
Match an Android IP address to the connected network
A saved Wi-Fi profile is not necessarily the current connection. Confirm the connected network name before reading details. If a device has moved from home Wi-Fi to a guest network, the old local Android IP address may no longer apply. A remembered password or familiar network name is not evidence that the same router or subnet is in use.
When a local accessory fails, compare its network with the phone's network as well. Guest isolation or separate subnets can prevent communication even when both devices have working internet access. Reading an Android IP address establishes a configuration fact; it does not prove that another device can reach the phone, that a service is listening or that the router allows the connection.
Check an Android IP address on mobile data
Use the homepage while the browser is connected through mobile data. The observed public Android IP address can belong to a shared provider exit rather than an address reserved for one handset. To compare mobile data with Wi-Fi deliberately, record the first result, switch the connection when appropriate and repeat the same browser check. Restore your preferred connection afterward.
On a dual-SIM device, keep track of the line providing data. Google describes Pixel's mobile settings under Network & internet and SIMs in its mobile network guide. A different active line can produce another Android IP address even when the phone has not moved. Include that context when comparing providers or troubleshooting an unexpected source.
Do not assume that a Wi-Fi symbol proves every application request used Wi-Fi. Automatic switching and application routing can affect the active path. Google documents Pixel's automatic switch to mobile network behavior. If the Android IP address changes during a weak connection, record the network state and time before deciding that the address service is inaccurate.
A randomized MAC is not an Android IP address
The MAC address identifies the wireless interface at a different network layer. Android can use randomized MAC identifiers for Wi-Fi privacy. The displayed identifier is not your public Android IP address, and it cannot be submitted to an IP lookup as though both formats mean the same thing. Google's advanced settings documentation distinguishes device and randomized MAC information.
The word private can therefore refer to different concepts in nearby settings. A private IPv4 assignment belongs to local address space; a randomized MAC helps limit link-layer tracking. Changing MAC privacy merely to make an Android IP address look different confuses these mechanisms. Preserve the privacy configuration while you first establish which field the task actually requires.
Private DNS, VPNs and an Android IP address
Android's Private DNS setting concerns protection of DNS questions and answers. It does not turn the entire connection into a VPN or hide every public source from websites. Google makes this scope explicit in its Private DNS documentation. An unchanged Android IP address after enabling Private DNS is therefore not proof that the DNS feature failed.
A VPN can change the source seen by a website, while routing exceptions can make applications follow different paths. A browser's Android IP address observation does not certify how every app communicates. For a managed work application, use the organization's support process and include the application name, VPN state and relevant error. Do not remove a work profile just to make two observations match.
If an authorized VPN comparison is needed, record a baseline and alter one condition at a time. A changed Android IP address demonstrates a changed observation for that request. It does not by itself test DNS leaks, every browser communication mechanism or the provider's security practices. Keep the conclusion tied to what the check actually measured.
Understand an IPv6 Android IP address
An Android IP address containing colons is IPv6, not malformed IPv4. A network can support both families, and a device can hold more than one IPv6 value. Link-local values have a different scope from globally routed sources. Use the IPv4 and IPv6 guide when the notation or the relationship between the two families is unfamiliar.
The IPv6 test checks separate browser endpoints and describes failures without converting them into a universal diagnosis. An IPv4 result on one page does not establish that the phone lacks IPv6. Compare the same family and method when investigating an Android IP address change; otherwise you may be comparing simultaneous configurations rather than a reassignment.
When an Android IP address is unavailable
An address-assignment error on Wi-Fi is a local connection symptom. A failed public browser check can instead involve a captive portal, filter, unavailable endpoint or interrupted internet path. Preserve the exact message and determine which layer failed. A missing Android IP address in one interface should not automatically trigger a reset of all Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and mobile settings.
Confirm the connected network and any legitimate sign-in requirement, then consult the network operator if assignment still fails. Avoid selecting a random static value: it can collide with another device or use an incorrect gateway. Record whether other devices on the same network work, without treating that comparison as proof that the phone itself must be faulty.
Share an Android IP address with useful context
For support, include the relevant address, family, Wi-Fi or mobile connection, browser or Settings as the source, and observation time. Mention a VPN when it affects the task. An Android IP address is more useful with that short context than inside a full screenshot of account identifiers, device serial numbers or unrelated configuration.
For a local accessory, confirm the local value. For an internet service, confirm the public source the service expects. If the displayed city seems wrong, investigate IP location estimates separately from the number itself. A successful Android IP address check should give you the right evidence while leaving your working connection and privacy settings intact.
